Heledd Wyn


I am a certified coach and mediator who works with individuals and groups.

British (born in Wales) I graduated in Human Sciences from Cambridge University  and completed my PhD at Université Paris II where I conducted research on what it is to belong to different cultures, and how our identites develop. In trying to understand whether we could build supranational identities, I delved deeply into the subject of how we become who we are, how our different histories, genders, cultural, social, and linguistic identities all play a part in the people we become. Having lived and worked in France for twenty years, I experienced first hand how difficult it can be to become yourself in a culture different to the one in which you were raised. Teaching at Sciences Po gave me insight into the challenges young people face today but also into the intelligence, sincerity and courage they have to reflect on themselves, their place in society and how to make our cultures, whether it be within our families, workplaces or in wider society more inclusive and human. Through my research, work and personal experience I realised that there was one question that I was being called to try to understand and address: how can each person develop the confidence to become who they are and accept difference in others, letting them also become who they are?

The desire to dig deeply into this question led me to undertake training in coaching and mediation. The two-years’ training that I completed at International Mozaik, Paris and year-long training at the CMAP in Paris (Centre de Mediation et de l’Arbitrage) gave me new insights and tools into how to work with people who are facing this question in one way or another, either individually or as part of a group.

Every coaching and mediation process that I have been a part of has taught me two things. The first is that as  coach or mediator, the conflicts and situations that cause people to suffer need to be taken with very serious inquiry such that the person can discover the true causes of what they are and the best ways to address them. The second learning is the essential value of humility: of knowing that it is the person in question who is the best equipped to understand their thoughts and ideas, know what they need and discover the most suitable ways for moving forward.
